From my Pocket – Mid November edition

Here are 5 links which inspired me last month.

1. Lessons from the Eiffel Tower by Seth Godin

Oh what we can learn for the Eiffel Tower. Short. Sweet. inspiring.

2. You Are Not A Machine. You Are Not Alone. by Paul Boag at Smashing Magazine

On how we try to work long hours and be productive like a machine…

3. Be A Better Designer By Eating An Elephant by Alexander Charchar at Smashing Magazine

A very nice post on how to tackle huge, intimidating projects – which are absolutely essential to our growth, but in which we hesitate to engage with nonetheless. Though this article is written in teh context of learning to become a better web developer, the concepts and ideas are very useful in all life projects.

4. The Physics of Productivity: Newton’s Laws of Getting Stuff Done by James Clear

Excellent analogy. Quote from the article:

“Newton’s laws of motion reveal insights that tell you pretty much everything you need to know about how to be productive.”

and the laws are

_“1. Objects in motion tend to stay in motion. Find a way to get started in less than 2 minutes.

  1. It’s not just about working hard, it’s also about working on the right things. You have a limited amount of force and where you apply it matters.

3.Your productivity is a balance of opposing forces. If you want to be more productive, you can either power through the barriers or remove the opposing forces. The second option seems to be less stressful.”

A must-read article._

5. What it takes to make good stuff in the world. Creativity, cadence, core desired feelings. by Danielle la Porte

Oh how we sometimes must let go of our plans to help do the stuff we really want to do, and more.

Hope you enjoy the links!
